Cash for community projects up for grabs, thanks to Rotarians

Middleton residents meet Father Christmas as the Rotary Club of Middleton's festive float tours the town in 2009
The Rotary Club of Middleton is giving worthy causes a chance to go before a judging panel to apply for their share of a Christmas grant in the style of hit show “Dragons’ Den.”
The club is urging Middleton community groups and organisations to get in touch and apply for cash for their projects.
Rotarian Stuart Sawle said: “Last year we raised almost £6,000 for worthy causes and we are hoping to do the same again this year but we want to expand the range of organisations we hand this cash to.”
This year the club is planning to set up their own television style 'den' where worthy causes can pitch their ideas to a panel of Rotarians.
The ‘dragons’ will then decide which groups to support as they write cheques worth hundreds of pounds for various local causes.
Mr Sawle added: “Our dragons won't be as tough as those on television but we hope the concept will get people from groups we don't usually support involved.
“There are so many groups doing good work in Middleton, many we are not even aware of, so it would be great to get them to come to us with their ideas on how they could use some of the cash we raise each year.”
