Industry Road 'has become a dumping ground', says resident

Rubbish dumped on Industry Road
A resident of Industry Road has described the area as a “dumping ground” due to fly tipping.
Following a report of fly-tipping to the council in October, the fly tipping has continued.
The resident, who did not want to be named, said: “The first attempt to clear the area was a half-hearted attempted by the council and nothing has really been done. It looks like a dumping ground.”
The fly tipping is occurring behind The Old Bricklayers Pub, which it is understood is now operating as a mosque.
Rubbish left on the site includes bricks, sheets of timber and blankets.
The resident added: “I expected all of the rubbish would have been removed and daffodils to have been planted and new shrubs. It’s been over six months and it is still not sorted.”
Mark Widdup, Director of Economy and Environment at Rochdale Council, said: “Following a report of fly tipping last October, we visited and cleared the site of all rubbish left on the site.
“After receiving another report last week, we visited the site again and found a small amount of timber, carpet and rubble which we have arranged to be removed. We have also arranged for additional shrubbery to be planted in this area in order to discourage further fly tipping.”
