Pennine Juniors Under 7s raising money for Cystic Fibrosis Trust

Date published: 03 May 2014

Pennine Juniors under 7s football team is aiming to score 50 goals throughout May to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

The team is fund-raising as part of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust 50 year anniversary.

Coach, Gary Chant said: “We are playing as much football as possible throughout May to score as many goals as possible with the aim being to get at least 50 goals.”

Gary’s youngest son has cystic fibrosis.

Cystic fibrosis is a life-shortening inherited disease affecting over 10,000 people in the UK. The life expectancy of someone living with Cystic Fibrosis is approximately 41 years but research has shown that babies born with the disease today can be expected to live longer.

“The slogan for the 50 year celebrations is that we won’t celebrate until everyone with cystic fibrosis can celebrate so we’re getting on board with that by doing the fund-raising,” added Gary.

The under 7s team took part in their first game on Thursday 1 May at Newhey Community School and won the game 3-1.

Gary added: “We had a good start yesterday and now we only have 47 more goals to go! We will definitely do it. I am confident.”

All money raised from the challenge will go to the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.
