Young Woman of Rochdale award

Date published: 20 March 2014

The committee behind the Woman of Rochdale award decided at a meeting yesterday (Wednesday 19 March) that there will also be a Young Woman of Rochdale award this year.

The award is being brought in as a way to attract younger residents of Rochdale to be nominated.

Those being nominated for the award have to have been born within the 25 years that the hospice has been in operation.

The unique thing about this award is that there are no designated criteria that people have to meet. Nominees simply have to have done something outstanding. For example, this could be caring for a parent, achieving extraordinary exam results or doing charity work in the community.

It is hoped that the Young Woman of Rochdale award will become a regular award handed out at the annual Woman of Rochdale luncheon.

The Woman of Rochdale and now the Young Woman of Rochdale is awarded by Springhill Hospice at an annual luncheon to celebrate those who have contributed the most to the community of Rochdale.

Sarah Ford, Income Services Manager at Springhill Hospice, said: “I think it is a brilliant idea to do this award. There are a lot of young women in Rochdale doing a lot of hard work that don’t get recognised. I am confident that this will become a regular award we hand out.”

A nominations system for the award has not yet been finalised but if anyone is keen to nominate someone for the award they can email: alison.mcguigan@nhs.net
