Mehretab Zemicael has been found guilty of murdering 42-year-old Gary Brisco from Rochdale.

Mr Brisco was found dead at a homeless shelter in London on Code Street, on 22 June 2013. He suffered multiple stab wounds including serious stab injuries to his neck.

Yesterday (Wednesday 19 February), a jury found Zemicael guilty of Mr Brisco’s murder at a trial at The Old Bailey. He will be sentenced on 6 March.

Gary’s mum, Joan Brisco, said: “Hearing the verdict yesterday will allow me to start putting an end to things but I will be going back on the 6 March to hear the sentencing.

"I have had so much support from everyone and I can’t thank those people enough, especially the police and everyone in London. Jan Walker and Nigel Booth have also been brilliant and were a great support yesterday.”

Police were called by the London Ambulance service just before 5:40pm on Saturday 22 June after Gary was found dead in his room at the hostel on Code Street.

43-year-old Zemicael was immediately identified as a suspect and a man hunt was launched to trace him on Sunday 23 June.

He was later traced by detectives and arrested on 9 July 2013. He was charged the following day with the murder of Mr Brisco.
