Rotary Club reward for charitable Andrea

The charitable efforts of a Rochdale woman have been awarded after her assistance with the Rotary Club of Middleton’s fundraising efforts.

Andrea Kelly of Heaton Park Sainsbury’s was awarded a Vocational Rotary Certificate for going above and beyond in her bid to help the Rotarians.

Sue Furby, Chair of the Youth and Vocational Projects Committee believed the award was fully merited.

“Andrea really deserves this award,” she said.

“It’s always a great pleasure in recognising the work which people do above and beyond their vocation.

“I’d also like to thank Janice Powell for nominating her.”

Andrea received the award from Middleton Rotary President Jeffrey Lawton who was delighted to reward her efforts.

It was felt Andrea had demonstrated the Rotary ethos of Service above Self when she served as a contact for the Club’s collection days and events at the store.

This included visiting the store on her days off in order to ensure events and collections were running smoothly.

Andrea also once drove to Burnley to collect beakers from their Sainsbury’s, which were to be given as prizes in the Diamond Jubilee Card Competition.

Her journey was made in her own time and her own expense, and a club spokesperson said this kind act was just one of many other ways in which she has helped out.

A club spokeswoman also put on record their thanks for the assistance received from the Heaton Park Sainsbury’s store.

“The Club is also grateful for the support it has shown, helping Rotary to raise money to benefit our local community,” she said.

“Every penny collected has been or will be given to worthy local causes.”

Keith Trinnaman, who is the Treasurer of the Rotary Club of Middleton and an avid fund raiser, said: “Whilst Rotary has the local community at heart with the work we try to deliver, we very much like to recognise the exceptional work done by many Middletonians.

"Many feel they are 'just doing their job' and don't always realise the benefits and service they bring to the community they serve. However, the Rotary Club of Middleton want to recognise them and the job they are doing locally which is greatly appreciated by all."
