BNP to give away cash

The BNP is attempting to drum up local support by offering organisations a share of their expense accounts and salaries.

Constituents across the North West will be able to apply for cash to fund local “worthwhile” projects.

The plan by North West MEP Nick Griffin is against the European Parliament rules. It will also spark fears that public funds will be spent on racist activities and used to legitimise the party in the eyes of the electorate.

It is believed Mr Griffin will put £8,000 from his salary and thousands left over from unused accommodation and travel allowances for the fund.

A spokesman for the European parliament said: “That would not be allowed. The rules are quite clear, allowances cannot be used for things that are not in the guidance.”

MEPs are given allowances of £363,000 a year, including £261 a day for just turning up. They are given the lump sum — opposed to MPs who must account for individual claims.
