Rochdale Beer Festival back after 20 years

Date published: 12 November 2015

The Rochdale Beer Festival has returned to the town for the first time in over 20 years.

Held at Rochdale Town Hall, the festival is set to take place over three days and will see over 65 real ales, ciders and perries available as well as hot food and live music.

Organised in collaboration with Rochdale Town Centre Management and local licensees The Baum, The Flying Horse, The Regal Moon and CAMRA, the event was officially opened by the Mayor of Rochdale, Councillor Surinder Biant, this afternoon (Thursday 12 November).

Simon Crompton from The Baum said: “I remember attending the festival in its last year and just thought why can’t we do that again.

“It is fantastic and is great for Rochdale. This will become an annual event for Rochdale and we are already planning for next year.”

It is believed that the last Rochdale Beer Festival was held in 1987 and was held outside. The event is now being held in the Great Hall at Rochdale Town Hall.

Ben Boothman from The Flying Horse said: “When I was approached by Simon, I knew it was a no brainer. It is fantastic and it is great to see it all come together.

“Real Ale is doing great at the minute and we have three of the best real ale pubs in Rochdale all together. Everyone involved has been great and CAMRA have been brilliant.”

All money raised from the event will go to the Mayor’s Charity Appeal.

Mayor of Rochdale, Councillor Surinder Biant said: “It is a wonderful event and I am very pleased that it is raising money for the Mayor’s Charity Appeal. I hope it raises a lot of money and everyone has a great time.”

The event was open from the public from today at 5.30pm and is open from 12pm on Friday 13 November and Saturday 14 November. The event closes at 10pm each day.
