A powerful poem written by Caitlin Morris, a student from Rochdale, is being used to spearhead a national youth education and training charity’s anti-bullying poster campaign.
Caitlin, 18, is a learner ambassador studying Health and Social Care at Rathbone Training in Rochdale and penned the poem in a session on anti-bullying.
“People in the class were talking about their experiences at school, I've never been bullied but I know people who have and it's not very nice. I don't think bullies realise the amount of hurt they can cause and the consequences of that. I think bullying should stop and I hope my poem can make a difference," said Caitlin.
The poem is now being transformed into a poster that will be displayed in all 37 of Rathbone Training’s centres across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Casey Page, Progressions Coach at Rathbone Training in Rochdale, said: “Caitlin’s poem is so powerful and really gets to the heart of what it feels like to be bullied but her ultimate message is a really positive and inspiring one. I’m delighted her work has been chosen to lead Rathbone Training’s anti-bullying poster campaign nationally.”
Last year Rathbone Training worked with just under 11,000 young people across the UK by providing youth employability training to support their progression to further education, training and work.
Linda Dean said: “Many of our students across the UK have told us that they have experienced bullying or that they have friends or relatives that have been impacted by bullying of one type or another, whether that is physical or psychological. We know this can have a really deep long lasting impact on young people’s futures.
“As an organisation we are committed to working with our young people like Caitlin, our staff and partner organisations to get the message out there that bullying of any kind is unacceptable in society and that help is there for any of our students who may affected by any of these issues.”
