Rochdale Young Muslim Organisation Eid Fun Day
Date published: 28 September 2015
Over 100 community members, young and old, came out to enjoy the Eid Fun Day organised by Rochdale Young Muslim Organisation (YMO).
Bouncy castles, a penalty shootout and gladiators were just a few of the activities outside Jalalia Jaame Mosque in the Wardleworth area.
Dewan Choudhury said: “The Eid fun day created a special community spark, not just for Muslims but for people of all faiths in the Wardleworth area as it was demonstrated on the day.
“Instead of young Muslim students going to school and telling their teachers that they did nothing for Eid, they can tell them they celebrated it with their friends and family in an enjoyable and friendly environment, as it should be.
"Muslims from the four corners of the World celebrated Eid ul-Adha to celebrate the Prophet Abraham’s sacrifice. Muslims are taught to celebrate and enjoy themselves yet think about the poor and give to them if possible. It is an act which symbolises Muslim’s willingness to give up bounties, strengthen ties of kinship and friendship and giving up things that are of benefit in or order to help those in need, while recognising that the blessings are from Allaah (God)."
