Date published: 03 September 2015

Councillors sitting on the Middleton Township Planning Sub Committee have rejected plans by Taylor Wimpey to build over 300 homes on land off of Hollin Lane and Langley Lane.

At a meeting on Wednesday (2 September) councillors rejected the plans and supported local residents who have been campaigning against the application.

Campaigner Bren Tierney said: “This was definitely a victory for Middleton. We had a phenomenal turn out of support from residents and we had support from local councillors, in particular Neil Emmott and Peter Williams, who spoke out in support of us. It showed that they have listened to what we had to say. This campaign hasn’t just been a few angry neighbours, it has affected the whole of Middleton.”

It is understood that the plans were rejected unanimously by councillors on the committee.

Even though Middleton councillors have rejected the plans, councillors on the Rochdale Planning and Licensing Committee will make the final decision.

Bren added: “Even though this is a victory for Middleton we are not being complacent because we know that Rochdale have to make a decision. We are not predicting the outcome of that meeting but we are hoping for just as much support as we had yesterday.”

The Rochdale Planning and Licensing Committee will make their decision at a meeting on Monday 21 September.
