Highlighting the benefits of independent living

Date published: 01 September 2015

Five housing providers have showcased how independent living with support is enriching the lives of residents across the borough.

Rochdale Over 55's Day provided a wealth on information on how independent living schemes can provide valuable support to people who need a little extra help around the home.

The event, held at Touchstones in Rochdale, was organised by RBH, St Vincent’s Housing, Riverside, Anchor and Regenda.

Those who attended were able to learn more about the expert teams who work at the schemes and the range of specialist technology available to keep residents safe and secure.

In addition there were a number of other attractions to give a flavour of independent living schemes - including singing, line dancing and arts and crafts.

The Mayor and Mayoress of Rochdale, Councillor Surinder Biant and Councillor Cecile Biant, also gave their support to the event and spent time chatting to the housing providers.

Among those who came along to find out more about independent living with support was Patrica Howarth from Hurstead.

Patricia said: “It has been interesting and informative. I now know a lot more about independent living and it is something I will consider in the future.”

RBH Supported Housing Manager Peter Smith said: “Independent living with support provides residents with the opportunity to retain their independence together with the reassurance that help is on hand when needed.

“Our schemes around the borough are very effective in providing safety and security for older people while also enabling them to make new friends and take up new interests.

“We also offer RBH Response which provides access to help and support 24 hours a day offering reassurance and peace of mind for people who want to remain living in their own homes.”

“If you or a family member are interested in seeing what we have to offer please don’t hesitate to give us a call on 0800 027 7769.”
