Smithy Bridge resident concerned at lack of police action following burglary

Date published: 30 July 2015

Justin Barker, whose house was broken into on Cleggswood Avenue between midnight and 6am on Saturday 25 July, is unhappy after receiving a letter from the police stating that they are no longer investigating the incident and that all lines of enquiry have been closed.

It is understood the offender(s) entered the property and made off with car keys and a wallet and then took the car.

Greater Manchester Police stated that a screwdriver or a similar tool was used to force entry through the ground floor window of the property.

Mr Barker said: “These people have stolen £30,000 worth of stuff and have come into my house to take it whilst my wife and child were asleep upstairs and the police are doing nothing about it. That doesn’t sit well with me at all.”

Greater Manchester Police stated that even though a letter has been sent to Mr Barker, it has been requested that an officer speak to him about the case, so the incident could be re-opened and be looked at again.

Mr Barker added: “Something seems to be going on because there has all of a sudden been a number of incidents over the course of the weekend.”

Mr Barker also knows of a property on Woodbarn Road that was targeted at 4:50am on the same morning.

“It looks like it is the same people or the same group of people,” said Mr Barker.
