Councillor Alan McCarthy, Lead Member for the Armed Forces at Rochdale Borough Council said: "The Council Leader [Councillor Richard Farnell] has asked that all five streets in our borough that are named after World War One battles are rededicated and have new signage installed as part of our 2014-18 commemoration activities.
“Final plans are yet to be confirmed but we expect to be able to make an announcement next month and hope to unveil them in August."
There are currently five streets across the borough that will be rededicated:
- Mons Avenue
- Falkland Avenue
- Jutland Avenue
- Marne Crescent
- Verdun Crescent
During the First World War, over 1 million Commonwealth Service men and women were killed, with their losses felt in many towns and villages across the UK and throughout what was the British Empire.
