MancRiders riding for Red-Aid

Date published: 04 April 2015

Northwest motorcycle group MancRiders are soon to raise money for Red-Aid, the charity arm of Rochdale based Redwood Secondary School for children with Special Needs, by completing a national challenge.

The challenge, named MancRiders Café Racers Challenge Ride 2015, consists of visiting 30 cafes throughout the UK and collecting points for rewards.

Points will be given to members who visit each one of the 30 cafes, plus who attend biker meetings, each of the 10 pubs listed and five one-day events. The locations are spread from Land’s End to John O’Groats.

The five special one-day events are Bike4Life on 26 April, Barton-Upon-Humber Bike Night on 1 July, Beaulieu Motorcycle Ride on 12 July, Brackley Festival of Motorcycling on 16 August and finally, Ride to the Wall on 3 October.

Ray Walton, organiser of the challenge and a MancRider, said: “I wrote this year’s challenge ride adding some tough to reach locations just to make sure the 14 guys and two lady riders were kept busy through the year and no one could visit all locations in one or two rides.

“I chose to raise money for Red-Aid purely because of my daughter, Lilie Rose, who suffers from cerebral palsy. I’d rather fund raise for a local charity compared to a bigger, well-known charity to raise awareness.

“Biking is a life-long obsession of mine, and I have rode for 35 years non-stop.

“Other challenges I have done are the MancRiders Speedway Challenge last year, raising awareness for the Haemophilia Society, and the Gold Post Box Challenge in 2012 where I visited 110 of the Olympic gold post boxes, travelling over 6,700 miles in 18 days.

“My favourite bike is my Honda Goldwing GL1800, I’ve named as The Wing, and I have a Kawasaki 7XR750 I call Trinity, which I spent two years renovating for my son’s 21st birthday.”

100% of the funds raised will go to Red-Aid.
