Heywood police officers move back to Heywood police station

Date published: 21 March 2015

Neighbourhood Beat Officers and PCSOs covering Heywood will be parading at and being deployed from Heywood Police station from Wednesday 1 April 2015.

It is hoped that the move back to the station will enhance officer’s visibility, foster and strengthen confidence and develop reassurance within the community.

Councillor Peter Rush, who has campaigned to have the station reopened for over four years, said: “It is very, very good news and since this new team has been on board and Steve Hanlon has been on board, we have worked together to make things happen.

“I have been campaigning for this for four years now so I am very pleased and need to thank everyone for their support with our petitions and campaigns. Even though there are no desk facilities at the minute that is something we have in our future plans.”

The neighbourhood police team for Heywood moved out of the building when the Major Incident Team (MIT) moved in. The team have since been based in Middleton.

The public enquiry counter at Heywood was one of 23 closed across Greater Manchester in 2012.

Even though officers and PCSOs will be using the station, there will be no front desk facilities.
