Family left homeless after Middleton house fire
Date published: 26 February 2015
A family of seven have been left homeless after a fire ripped through their home in Middleton.
Two adults and five children managed to escape the blaze uninjured after being alerted by a neighbour, but their house was completely gutted by the fire.
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) was called to the two-storey detached property in Durnford Street at 12.10am on Thursday 26 February.
When they arrived, the ground, first floor and roof were on fire and fire fighters used breathing apparatus, two hose reels, one jet, tactical ventilation, thermal imaging and their new ultra high pressure lance to tackle the fire.
Fire fighters remained at the scene for around six hours to ensure that the fire was fully extinguished.
The British Red Cross Fire Emergency Support Service vehicle and volunteers have provided support to the family.
An investigation is underway to establish the cause of the fire, which started in the utility room.
