Councillor Farooq Ahmed's appeal against his conviction for a section 4 public order offence was dismissed on Friday (19 December).
In June, Councillor Ahmed was found guilty after the court heard he hurled homophobic abuse at fellow Councillor Neil Emmott during a row in the street in January.
Councillor Ahmed continued to protest his innocence and sought to overturn his conviction on appeal. However, the appeal court upheld the conviction.
Speaking to Rochdale Online after the verdict, Councillor Emmott said: "I am just glad the court upheld the original decision."
When the allegations first surfaced, Councillor Ahmed was suspended from the Labour party and subsequently left to form his own party, 'Rochdale First', following his conviction.
He was unavailable for comment at the time of publication.
