CCTV footage of a man who was masturbating outside a child's bedroom window has been released.

The offender spent more than 30 minute lurking round the house in the Grimshaw Lane area of Middleton between about 6.40am and 7.10am on 10 November 2014.

When the homeowner spotted a number of footprints around his property he viewed his CCTV system and saw disturbing footage of the offender prowling round his property.

Police have now released footage of the offender in the hope someone recognises him.

Detectives are now exploring the possibility this incident could be linked to a similar incident on Gabriels Terrace on Monday 25 November 2014. On this occasion a woman saw a man wearing a balaclava and a hi-vis jacket staring at her through her kitchen window.

When she saw him he ran off.

Detective Inspector Lee Hopwood, based at Middleton, said: "These are truly disturbing incidents that have caused the victims some considerable upset.

"To know that a strange man has been prowling round the outside of your property is bad enough, but to know what he was doing there is even worse.

"Make no mistake, this type of crime isn't just offensive or rude, it is deeply upsetting and unsettling for the victims.

"I now want people to take a good look at the man in the footage and tell us who he is."

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 8701 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
