New car park on old bus station site in town centre opens on Friday

Date published: 24 November 2014

A new 200 space car park will open at the former bus station site in Rochdale town centre on Friday (28 November).

As a council run facility, motorists arriving after 3pm on weekdays or using the site on Saturdays won’t have to pay, subject to the conditions marked out on the car park signs. Cars can access the new car park via Baillie Street.

A series of pathways and directional signs have been erected on the old 'Black Box' site to make it easier for people to access the town centre, and this will also open on Friday. Longer term, both sites will be used as part of the mixed leisure and retail development, Town Centre East.

Councillor Jacqui Beswick, Cabinet Member for Environment at Rochdale Borough Council, said: “It’s important that we, as a council, support local businesses as best we can, and this new facility will make it a lot easier for people to use the many shops and services on offer in Rochdale. We’ve got some very exciting plans for this site in the long term, but for now, we are confident it will be very well used by members of the public.”
