Date published: 18 November 2014

A man has been charged following the death of a man in Middleton.

At around 12.45am on Sunday 16 November 2014, emergency services were called to Manchester Old Road at the junction of Chapel Street in Middleton following reports of a collision.

When officers attended they found a 28-year-old man with serious injuries and despite the efforts of paramedics and officers he sadly died at the scene. He has now been formally identified as Arron Wasdell, 28, from the Middleton area.

Initial enquiries have established that shortly before the collision there had been an altercation outside the Carters Arms pub between Arron and a group of men.

Steven Vincent Carroll (born 30/09/1981), of Heywood Court, Middleton, has been charged with manslaughter and will appear before Bury and Rochdale Magistrates' Court on 18 November 2014.

A 31-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder has been bailed until 29 December 2014 pending further inquiries.

A Home Office post-mortem examination has established that Arron died from multiple injuries.

Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to call police on 0161 856 8701 or independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
