Beech House School celebrate harvest
Date published: 23 October 2014
Beech House School celebrated harvest recently with a gathering of the whole school from Reception to Year 11 in the Sports Hall at the Manchester Road site.
Many parents and pupils have been exceptionally generous this year and we were able to heap our tables high with gifts of food, which were later taken to Petrus House in Rochdale to help feed the homeless of the local area.
Pupils had practised harvest hymns, readings and prayers and it was a very joyous occasion when all their careful preparation came together in a celebration of the harvest and to thank God for providing an abundant supply of food for us.
We were joined for the event by several notable visitors; of course, many parents took time out of their busy daily lives to join us, but we were also happy to welcome the ‘new’ Vicar of Rochdale, the Reverend Mark Coleman and Mr Sajid Yasin and Mr Samer Mohammed from the Golden Mosque.
Rev’d Coleman delivered a most appropriate address to pupils, inviting them to consider and thank not only the farmers who produce our food but also the host of pickers, packers and transport workers who help to get the produce to our shops and markets.
Samer Mohammed led us in prayer and spoke to pupils about the need to thank God for our access to clean safe water, recalling that so many people around the world have only muddy, insanitary supplies, yet even they regularly thank God for this vital commodity.
It was a delight to meet together on this occasion and hope that, in our small way, we can continue to work and worship together with the representatives of these faith communities to contribute to the growth of a stronger, local multi-faith community.
