Iain Gartside has been selected as the Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Heywood and Middleton.

He was chosen by the Heywood and Middleton Association at a selection meeting on Monday night.

Iain, 39, who has a background in finance, is the leader of the Conservative group on Bury Council.

He is married to Lisa, an IT consultant and they live in nearby Walmsley, Bury.
In his spare time Iain is a keen cricketer and is involved helping a number of local charities, including Pets in Need and the Bury Society for the Blind and Partially Sighted. He is also a volunteer park ranger in Bury.

Iain, who is a fan of Manchester City, said he would relish the opportunity to help all the community groups across Heywood and Middleton and with his background as a councillor in Tottington, is well versed in dealing with issues that are also common to Heywood and Middleton residents.

After his selection Iain said: “I am delighted to have been selected as the Conservative candidate for Heywood and Middleton. I came into politics to help people from all walks of life and that will be my guiding principle in this campaign. I love living in this region, the people are so passionate about their community and community matters.

“I want to be a strong local voice for the residents here. I will make the case for more, good secondary school places across the borough, so our young people can have the chance of a great start in life.

“The possible expansion of the Scout Moor wind farm and the Taylor Wimpey planning application on a ‘green lung’ area of Middleton are also worries for many people in our area – I will fight against these proposals.

“I want to work hard to help the Conservative Party secure a majority Government in 2015 to build on the progress that has been made by David Cameron and the Party since the last election.”
