Library group in fresh search for classic readers
The Rochdale Library Classic Reads Group is looking to entice new members who share their interest and passion for classic literature.
Meeting on the second Saturday of each month, the group discusses classic novels which have thrilled the people of the past and remain cherished by the present generation.
The group’s leader, Eileen Earnshaw, has considerable experience hosting workshops and running literature clubs. She hopes new members can contribute to the group’s dynamic and help explore fresh perspectives.
Eileen said: “We’re a small enthusiastic group which looks at a different classic novel each month. We represent a perfect platform for lovers of classic literature to meet and share ideas about our favourite authors, books, themes and characters.
“I encourage you to come and join us in our quest for clarity and understanding.”
If you have always wondered what Jane Eyre and Lady Chatterley have in common or you harbour an ambition to explore the modern relevance of Great Expectations, then this is a group ideally suited to your interests.
Rochdale Central Library is home to the unique Maskew Collection of classic literature and philosophy, the gift of Annie and Frank Maskew, a Rochdale couple who shared a passion for reading and thinking. They originally met in Rochdale Library and left a sum of money to be used on resources and events related to literature and philosophy to ensure classic works are available for future generations. Consequently, members of the Classic Reads group, or anyone else with an interest in this area, have a wonderful selection of books to choose from.
