REAG clean up Deeplish
Date published: 30 July 2014
On Saturday 26 July, members of the Rochdale Environmental Action Group (REAG) cleaned up the Pullman, Pomona, Pike, Penrith, nearby Park, Cecil Street, Deeplish.
During the clean up, they found a mattress, cans, bottles, cigarette packets and litter in and around these streets.
Residents reported about the congregation of a large group of youths on Cecil Street who were involved in anti-social behaviour, particularly during the night time and littering the area.
Ghulam Rasul Shahzad OBE, Secretary of REAG, said: “There needs to be a change of attitude and behaviour of people who are causing litter and rubbish in our beautiful park, playgrounds, streets and roads.
"The litter leads to a negative image of the community and the borough of Rochdale.
“This can either be achieved through education or the enforcement of the environmental laws.
“It is our collected social responsibility to keep our properties and businesses tidy by throwing out our litter and rubbish in the bins provided. With this we can make a great difference in our town.”
