Shahbaz Hussain performs with world famous musician

Date published: 08 July 2014

Shahbaz Hussain, a tabla virtuoso from Rochdale, was recently given the opportunity to perform with South Asian classical musician, the Sarod Maestor, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan.

The concert was part of the annual Tagore Festival in memory of Rabindranath Tagore at Dartington Hall, Devon.

Surrounded by serene, picturesque landscape, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan and Shahbaz Hussain performed to a packed hall.

Playing pieces composed by Tagore, the two artists performed to the delight of the audience who applauded them whole heartedly.

This was certainly a first as the concert saw a British born Tabla Virtuoso representing his country alongside the likes of Ustad Amjad Ali Khan.

Described as an achievement of the highest order, Shabaz learnt his art and craft from firstly his father Mumtaz Hussain as well as Ustad Fayaz Khan, Ustad Mian Shokat Hussain Khan and Ustad Allarakha.

Born and based Rochdale, Shahbaz regularly teaches music at Parkinson Lane School in Halifax and also travels the world performing and teaching.
