Taylor Wimpey welcomes ideas for Middleton proposals

Date published: 03 June 2014

Taylor Wimpey has today begun a public consultation on initial plans for a new high-quality landscaped development to the north of Middleton.

Whilst the plans are at a very early stage, the homebuilder wants to hear from the local community to gather ideas on what new facilities are needed in the area and how the development should be designed.

The proposals could include around 205 new high-quality family homes on the Hollin Lane site and 152 new family homes on the Langley Lane site, plus new community facilities, woodland planting and public open spaces.

The proposed new homes would help to meet demand for people looking to move to the area and for those who would like to stay but are currently struggling to find a suitable property.

Information leaflets have been delivered to over 3,000 homes in north Middleton announcing the proposals and residents have been invited to an initial exhibition to share their ideas.

Andrew Thorley, Regional Director at Taylor Wimpey, said: “Middleton has a growing need for more high-quality homes and these proposals have great potential to provide a careful and well-designed development which will provide a range of new homes designed for first-time buyers, growing families and those looking to downsize. In this consultation we are asking the community what homes are needed and what should come with them, including for example, new community facilities, shops, parks and woodland areas.

“The development would also bring a range of other benefits to Middleton, including almost 150 jobs during construction and apprenticeships for local young people, an additional £9m of spending per year by new residents in local shops and services, and secure an extra £3.1m of government money to be spent in Middleton by Rochdale Council as part of the New Homes Bonus.

“Our plans are at a very early stage and we are really keen to get the views of the local community on what the plans should include. All feedback from the consultation will help to shape the scheme, so I encourage people to come along to the exhibition”
Plans will go on display at St Anne’s Academy, Hollin Lane, Middleton this Saturday, 7 June between 11am and 3pm. "
