Harefield Hall, Heywood
Harefield Hall in Heywood is on the market for sale at a staggering £1,750,000.
Harefield Hall was built in 1846 for local magistrate and cotton mill owner Richard Kay as a family home.
In the 1960s it became the halls of residence for De La Salle College, before being converted back to a family home.
Local estate agents, Adamsons Estates, describe the house as a 'truly exceptional stone built detached residence set in approximately four acres with swimming pool, tennis court and a detached one bedroom bungalow.'
The house, which dates back to 1846, has been extensively renovated and extended.
Adamsons say the property 'is beautifully presented throughout with stunning features and quality fittings.
'Approached via a tree lined private lane off Rochdale Road East with electric gates leading to a large drive and four car garage, this imposing property lies within the Green Belt and enjoys panoramic views, stunning gardens with ponds, barbeque and outside bar facilities.
'The generously proportioned interior boasts five reception rooms, recently modernised kitchen and five bedrooms.'
In April 2013 the mansion was saved from destruction when the owners discovered a fire in the basement on Easter Sunday.
Fire crews stripped back wooden panelling to protect the hall’s historic staircase.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus tackled the fire in the basement while the watch manager directed the fire crew from outside with the help of a thermal imaging camera. With the blaze in danger of spreading through the building, additional firefighters also tackled it from the ground floor.
