Connell Brothers, the company working on the demolition of the bus station and the black box in Rochdale Town Centre, have received three awards from external and internationally recognised bodies.

Connell Brothers Ltd were awarded the British Safety Council International Safety Award for the seventeenth consecutive year. The company received a merit award at this year’s awards ceremony.

The company also received the 2014 Bronze National Site Award for their work at Harraby College in Carlisle.

Steve Balyski, Operations Manager at Connell Brothers said: “We were rubbing shoulders with the great and mighty of the construction industry. Connell Brothers were one of three demolition contractors to be awarded in the entire UK during the ceremony.”

The company also won the 2014 RoSPA President’s Award for Occupational Health and Safety. This was the eleventh consecutive gold award for the company.

Steve added: “Evidence of our commitment to health, safety and the environment is clearly demonstrated by the triple success of awards we have recently received.”

Connell Brothers Ltd were brought in to Rochdale at the start of the year to undertake the demolition of the old bus station and the old council offices.

The bus station is now completely demolished with the remains being cleared. The black box is now surrounded by scaffolding with demolition expected to begin soon.
