Date published: 27 March 2014

Police in Norfolk are appealing for help to trace the next of kin of a family who died in a road traffic collision on the A47 at East Winch, Norfolk yesterday, Wednesday 26 March 2014.

They have been named locally as Jeffrey and Marion Hain and their son, Christopher from Rochdale.

Jeffrey Hain was a Reader at St Thomas’ CE Church, Newhey, the family were well-known in the village.

Inquiries at their home in Newhey have so far failed to locate any next of kin.

Any relatives or anyone with information to help officers trace them should contact PC Keith Sainsbury at the Swaffham Roads Policing Unit of Norfolk Police on 01953 424242.

All three were pronounced dead at the scene, they were travelling in a silver Kia Ceed  towards King’s Lynn which was in collision with a lorry travelling in the opposite direction outside the Carpenter’s Arms pub on the A47 at around 11.15am.

The Bishop of Middleton, Mark Davies, said: “We are shocked and saddened to hear of the tragic death of Jeffrey Hain, his wife Marian and their son Chris in a car crash in Norfolk yesterday.

"Jeffrey was a lay Reader at St Thomas’ Church in Newhey, where he exercised a long and faithful ministry.

"Marian and Chris were also committed to the church family at St Thomas’, where they served as lay assistant and crucifer, respectively.

"The family were a much-loved part of the church and will be missed enormously.

"Special prayers will be said at the Eucharist service on Sunday at which the family would normally have been present. Our thoughts and prayers are with the whole community."
