Rumours of free parking on private car parks unfounded
Date published: 20 December 2013
Rumours surrounding whether or not Rochdale Council will be 'forcing' a “free after three” rule on private car parks are unfounded.
Vice Chairman of Rochdale High Street Foundation, Greg Couzens, had posted on social media: "Talks are taking place to introduce Free After Three in private car parks!
"We can force the [sic] hand!"
Rochdale Council has told Rochdale Online that they are not aware of any such talks.
A spokesperson for the Council said: “We are unable to confirm this as there are a number of private car parks, all owned by different landlords. We have not been informed of this though.
“I would advise that motorists check the signs in the car park to ensure they are aware of what the conditions of use are.
“We would urge motorists to try to find a council-owned car park, which are free after 10am over the entire festive period until 5 January.”
