Beware when you park at River Street car park
Date published: 12 December 2013
Parking at River Street car park off Drake Street is no longer entirely under council control. The bays on the left hand side as you enter the car park are privately owned and new notices on the wall warn of a £60 fine for unauthorised parking by non permit holders.
The car park was until recently entirely under Rochdale Council control.
A spokesperson for Rochdale Borough Council said: “All the bays on the left hand side, as you drive on to the car park along Monkhouse Schoolwear’s wall, are private car parking bays for permit holders only and are no longer under council control.
“Any vehicle which is parked in one of these bays without a permit could be issued with a £100 Parking Charge Notice. These notices are issued by a private contractor employed by the landowner.
“All other bays on the car park are operated by Rochdale Borough Council and still subject to the terms and conditions outlined on the tariff board.”
