Armed robbery at Althams Travel in Littleborough

Date published: 17 August 2013

Althams Travel Services in Littleborough were victims of an armed robbery on Friday morning (16 August). A man armed with a knife held up the travel agents and demanded currency from staff.

Manager Karen Hopwood told Rochdale Online: “A man came in off of the streets. He walked through the door and said he wanted currency. He then came to the side of the desk and pulled a knife out.

“He told me not to move and told me and Katie to go into the back room. He told Katie to take out everything from the safe and told me to open the back door. Then he just ran.”

The robbery occurred at 10:22am.

“We have CCTV so the police have that and CID have been but I don’t know what’s happening now,” added Karen.

Karen said: “This has not happened before. It’s usually a quiet town but maybe that’s why he targeted the area.”

Carole Stirzaker from The Flower and The Glory, two shops down from Althams travel said: “We probably know as much as everyone else but we were broken into the day before Valentines Day.

“Its business as usual really. This isn’t a violent place.”

Police investigating the robbery said: “There are currently no updates available and no new information at this time."
