Man has serious head injuries following assault

A man is in a serious condition in hospital with head injuries sustained during an assault in Fleece Street, Rochdale.

The victim was punched in the face and knocked to the ground.

The victim, believed to be 20, remains in hospital in a serious condition.

Police were called shortly before 3.20am on Saturday 29 June 2013.

Police are keen to trace a man, described as white, 5ft 9in tall and wearing a blue t-shirt and dark trousers and a woman with a white skirt and black top, who were seen to run off along Fleece Street after the assault.

Detective Inspector Andy Aston, said: “The victim has suffered a very serious head injury and I would encourage anyone who was in the area in the early hours of this morning and may have seen what happened to contact me.

“We are reviewing CCTV of the incident and I am confident we will identify the other man involved quickly so I would urge him to contact us and tell us what happened in his own words as soon as possible.”

UPDATE 3.40pm

Police have confirmed that a man has this afternoon handed himself in at Rochdale Police Station in relation to the serious assault.
