College welcomes Guernsey teachers

Date published: 08 May 2013

Hopwood Hall College played host to a group of teachers from Guernsey recently, as part of their programme to share good practice between colleges and help the teachers in their training.

The nine teachers from Guernsey College of Further Education, visited Hopwood Hall College as part of their Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (DTLLS) diploma for which they are currently studying. The course is a teacher training qualification, which requires learning about the curriculum for students aged between 14-19. As a result, Hopwood Hall College was more than happy to invite the group to the College to share with them the work they do.

The group spent a day at Hopwood, with staff giving them a guided tour of the College. They also had the opportunity to observe classes, chat to students, join in with training sessions and meet with fellow teachers to discuss ideas and best practice in education.

Louise Misselke, Acting Vice Principal at Guernsey College of Further Education, commented: “We were so grateful to Hopwood Hall College to welcome us as they did. We were very impressed with the focus of the students and how dedicated and passionate the staff were in ensuring students get the best experience, teaching and learning opportunities. It was a great day and we would welcome the College staff to our college in Guernsey any time.”

Lesley Hawkins, Assistant Principal at Hopwood Hall College, added: “We always encourage best practice working, so being able to share some time with the staff from Guernsey College was great for both teams. It’s always interesting to find out how other colleges work with their students and we were very happy to help the group. We wish them well in their studies.”
