Pals die in holiday horror
Date published: 28 March 2013
The children of two Rochdale men who were tragically killed while on holiday in Thailand have said the deaths had left a “massive hole” in their lives.
In a heartbreaking joint statement, the children of Derek Gent (69) and Michael Holmes (68) said: “We are struggling to comprehend our loss.”
Derek and friend Michael were on holiday on the island of Koh Samui with their wives when a pick-up truck veered off the road and hit them killing them instantly.
Mr Gent, of Croft Head Drive, Milnrow, campaigned against loan sharks and cowboy businesses, helped to monitor unscrupulous traders and provided advice for consumers.
Derek’s wife Christine (66) returned home to Rochdale on Tuesday with Michael’s wife Janet (67) to be with their families.
