New medical centre now open

Work on a new £2.3 million medical centre is now complete.

The doors to the long awaited purpose built Wellfield Health Centre on Oldham Road, Rochdale, opened earlier this month, welcoming the first patients into the brand new building.

The existing Wellfield Surgery has relocated from its old premises on the opposite side of Oldham Road, to the new state of the art centre which was developed by MedicX, a UK investor and developer of healthcare property.

Wellfield Health Centre provides eight consulting rooms, two treatment rooms, a nurse treatment room and a pharmacy, in addition to a 43 space car park for patients and members of the public visiting the local facilities.

The scheme was brought forward by several local stakeholders, including Rochdale Borough Council, Rochdale Development Agency, Heywood, Middleton & Rochdale PCT, Pennine Land and Impact Partnership, to offer a centralised location for doctors and staff to provide much improved services and healthcare experiences for patients and the local community.

Dee Flynn, Practice Manager, Wellfield Health Centre commented: “We are delighted to have moved into the new medical centre, which is a much needed resource to the area and has been long awaited. Our new premises provide a real boost to both patients and staff alike, encompassing extra examination and treatment rooms. We would all like to thank the many people involved with this project who have strived to ensure we finally have a modern, purpose built building for the local community.”

Ashley Heath, Healthcare Property Director said: “It has been a pleasure working with the Wellfield Surgery and the other local stakeholders involved in making this project a reality. Modern healthcare centres that can be delivered within budget and provide value for money are essential for local communities and we are confident the users of this new centre will be delighted with what has been achieved.”

John Hudson, Chief Executive, Rochdale Development Agency concludes: “The development of a new surgery in this area has been a long-standing aspiration for many people. The new premises will provide the local community with some first class health facilities and provides another quality development as part of our regeneration plans for Oldham Road.”
