Share your memories and take a tour
Date published: 11 April 2012
As Central Leisure Centre closes in the summer in readiness of the new Rochdale Leisure Centre, you are invited to come and share your memories of over 70 years of history at ‘Rochdale Baths’.
Head of Arts and Heritage, Julian Jefferson said: “The Rochdale Baths is an iconic architectural gem that has played an important part in the community’s life over the years. We look forward to people sharing their great memories with us.”
Heritage Tours of Central Leisure Centre are also taking place on Thursday 19 April 2012. Visits include a full tour of the ‘Central Leisure Centre’ or more commonly known to local residents as ‘Central’ which opened in 1927 as the ‘Rochdale Baths’. ‘Central’ is unique in the region because of its three swimming pools, traditional health suite with Turkish and Russian baths with steam room, hot rooms and relaxation lounge - as well as a sauna.
The first tour is set to take place at 10.30am-12noon at the Central Leisure Centre, followed by a 1 hour tour of the new Rochdale Leisure Centre building (duration of 2½ hours in all).
The second tour is at 2pm for about 1 hour which only includes a tour of old Central Leisure Centre.
Places are limited and booking is essential. Please email tic@link4life.org to book your place.
