Huge support for student’s sticky sculptures

An A-level art student from Wardle High School is so good at creating sculptures from sellotape that she has gained support from the makers of the sticky stuff.

Abbie-Lee Hollister, 17, has achieved huge success with her project of creating sculptures based on the work of American artist, Mark Jenkins.

Sellotape have been so impressed by the teen’s work that they have sent her 80 rolls of tape to assist with her work and they are featuring her and her sculptures in some of their promotions.

Miss Hollister’s work is on display at the school and this week she will teach a Performing Arts class, showing students how to make props including a glass slipper for their performance of Cinderella.

Later this month her work will go on display at the Museum of Science and Industry.

Touchstones in Rochdale and Eureka in Halifax have also expressed an interest in exhibiting Miss Hollister’s work. And, later this year Littleborough based shop Occasions and Celebrations will use the work in their window display.

Miss Hollister said: "It is good to get such great feedback about my work.

“I have put a lot of time and effort into this piece and it is nice to know it is appreciated.

“I am excited to take part in the upcoming exhibitions and displays."

Art teacher, Jenny Kendell, said: “Abbie has always been a talented Art pupil however, her work this year has been really exciting.

“After initial inspiration from Mark Jenkins, Abbie has developed her own range of sculptures in this style.

“It has generated a lot of interest both in and outside of school from open evening to MOSI.

“This project has been a personal challenge for Abbie and has taken her skill level and her confidence to a new height.”

Elpida Gailani, Senior Brand Manager for Sellotape, said: “We are delighted to support a project that encourages people to use Sellotape in an original and inventive way.

“Abbie has been able to use Super Clear Sellotape to create visually striking sculptures, which reflects Sellotape’s brand belief of ‘Simple ingenuity’.”
