Consultation on Castleton Post Office relocation

Date published: 23 June 2011

A public consultation is underway regarding proposals to relocate Castleton Post Office.
The Post Office is currently based at 858-860 Manchester Road, Castleton, but Post Office bosses are proposing to relocate the branch to number 817 Manchester Road, which is the other side of the bridge from the current location.

A letter has been sent to residents and ward Councillors regarding the proposed move to seek comments and views.

The letter explains that the Post Office has been run by a ‘temporary agent’ since a contract with a sub postmaster came to an end. However, a new sub postmaster has been appointed and is said to have secured an empty retail unit which he plans to refurbish to incorporate the Post Office service.

The letter reads: “Our priority is to safeguard Post Office services to the local community in the longer tem. The relocation of Castleton Post Office will create a more secure Post Office service to the local community for the future and enable us to improve existing facilities.”

Public consultation is open until 2 August 2011. If the plans are given the go ahead the move is likely to happen in September 2011.
