MP’s leaflet printed out of town

Date published: 26 April 2011

Rochdale’s MP, Simon Danczuk, has come under fire for having his leaflets printed by a firm in Dorset.

Mr Danczuk’s latest leaflet named ‘Rochdale News’, that households in the town have received, has a piece in it titled ‘Keep trade local, says Rochdale MP,’ and it refers to Rochdale Council using a firm in Hull. However, the leaflet was printed out of town.

The back page of the leaflet contains the address of the publishers as ‘Blackmore Limited, Longmead, Shaftsbury, Dorset, SP7 8PX’

The piece within the leaflet, reads: “Rochdale’s MP Simon Danczuk has signed the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) pledge to keep trade local and argues that Rochdale must learn from Lib Dem mistakes of the past.”

The story goes on to quote Mr Danczuk saying: “We need to spend public money wisely…”

Gail Shepherd of Rochdale based Shepherd Printers Ltd said Mr Danczuk should use Rochdale printers.

She said: “We are doing some printing for the Independent Alliance – at least they are using us. He should be using a Rochdale printer; there are enough of us about.”

Posters on the Rochdale Online forum have expressed their anger.

A poster, named Hinch, wrote: “Oh dear! Shot himself in the foot there.

“We still have some great local printers in Rochdale.”

Another poster, named Chill, said: “Wonder if he put a claim in for expenses of sending emails to the company in Dorset with the relevant information.”

Mr Danczuk has been invited to respond.
