Man jailed for stabbing ex-partner's new boyfriend

Date published: 03 December 2010

A man has been jailed for stabbing his ex-partner's new boyfriend.

Daniel Adams (born 23/02/1990) of Dumbarton Drive, Heywood, was jailed for six years at Bolton Crown Court today, Friday 3 December 2010.

He pleaded guilty to section 18 assault (causing grievous bodily harm with intent), affray and possessing a bladed article at an earlier hearing.

Adams' relationship with his 21-year-old girlfriend broke down and they split up at the end of July / beginning of August 2010.

Adams' former girlfriend started a new relationship soon after with a 17-year-old boy.

At 4.30pm on Monday 16 August 2010, Adams went to see his ex-girlfriend and confronted her about her new relationship.

He shouted at her continually and questioned her about it until she admitted she had a new boyfriend.

After the row, she ran inside and Adams was seen with a knife and heard making threats towards her new partner before driving off.

Shortly after, Adams turned up at the home of the 17-year-old and threatened him with the knife.

The victim walked over to the car after Adams threatened his family.

Adams grabbed the victim and stabbed him three times in the back in front of his parents.

The knife left no lasting damage to the victim other than some scarring.

Detective Constable Ben Harris, based at Rochdale CID, said: "Adams' actions were appalling - his former girlfriend has every right to move on and find a new partner without fearing Adams trying to control, bully or attack them.

"Adams should now have time to reflect on what he did and learn about what is the appropriate and lawful reaction to one of life's unhappy but very frequent occurrences."
