The scene of the crash on Halifax Road
A BMW crashed through a garden wall narrowly missing a bus stop on Halifax Road close to the junction of Albert Royds Street just before 9.30am this morning (Thursday 30 September 2010).
One male had to be assisted onto a spine board by fire fighters and paramedics before being conveyed to hospital in an ambulance.
Paul Rourke, an off duty fire fighter on his way home from the night shift at Rochdale Fire Station assisted in giving first aid and keeping the casualty’s head in neutral alignment prior to arrival of the emergency services.
It is thought that the casualty suffered a blackout due to being a diabetic.
Angus Robinson, Watch Commander, of Rochdale Fire Station’s Blue Watch, said: “He was extremely lucky not to crash into the bus stop itself and that no-one was waiting for a bus.”
