Albert Royds Street to close for 11 weeks

Date published: 23 July 2010

Albert Royds Street (A664) will be closed for 11 weeks from the 15 August 2010.

The closure is in place to allow for Clover Hall Bridge to be replaced.

Clover Hall Bridge carries Albert Royds Street (A664) over the Rochdale to Leeds railway and was built in 1933. The A664 is one of Rochdale’s main roads and is a key link to the motorway.

Traffic will be diverted along Halifax Road, to John Street along Molesworth Street and Milnrow Road.

A spokesperson from Impact Partnership who manage highways in the borough on behalf of Rochdale Borough Council, said:

“Albert Royds Street is a busy route therefore some disruption is unavoidable. For instance, today we’ve been carrying out an excavation of the road but there’ll be no closures taking place this weekend.

"To minimise disruption as much as possible we’ve planned the work to be carried out in phases.

"We know that during the summer months the road is generally quieter so we’ve planned our major restoration work to take place during this period.

"We’ve given advanced warning of the permanent closure which will start 15 August to the end of October and you can get all the latest updates on our website at www.rochdale.gov.uk/roadworks
