The Boggart of Clegg Hall

Milnrow’s local drama group, MADS, are bringing to life a local legend in their next play, The Boggart of Clegg Hall.
This is the story of the ghost that is said to haunt Clegg Hall. It is said that for hundreds of years the ghost has struck terror into the hearts of innocent passers by, workers in the nearby fields and bargemen on the canal.
The play has been written by MADS member Jon Comyn-Platt and will be performed, along with live music from The Moonshiners, as part of the Tim Bobbin Festival of Story Telling for 4 evenings, from 8 to 11 September 2010.
Jon Comyn-Platt said: “The legend of the Boggart of Clegg Hall is a compelling story. I cannot understand why it hasn’t been used before, for a major television feature or film.
When I first heard of it I knew it had to be embraced in a play, and what’s more it had to be performed at Ellenroad Mill. The history and atmosphere of the Mill boiler room contributed greatly to the success of The Tale of Tim Bobbin and I am sure it will be even more effective for this production.”
Artistic director Margaret Hopkinson, who also appears in the play, added that: “although the legend itself is a gruesome tale of murder, greed and ghostly apparitions, the production takes a lighter view of history and promises an evening of thrills, excitement and lots of fun!"
This performance follows the knockout success of The Tale of Tim Bobbin which was also staged in Ellenroad Mill.
The Tale of Tim Bobbin rapidly sold out and, although MADs are putting on an extra performance, the seating at the Mill is very limited, and customers should book their tickets as soon as possible.
Tickets are £6.00 each with concessions £5.00. Please phone 01706 357663.
