Paul Rowen MP has pledged to support the British Legion manifesto. The manifesto outlines the key actions that the Legion would like the next Government to take to improve the welfare of personnel and their families.
The manifesto also pledges to tackle poverty among older veterans and widows and make NHS priority treatment work for veterans with injuries caused by service in the Armed Forces. It also calls on the Government to improve and keep the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme under continual review and provide bereaved Armed Forces families with independent legal advice during inquests.
Paul Rowen said: “The armed forces deserve our respect and support and I am delighted to back The Royal British Legion. The Legion plays an important role in supporting the Armed Forced Forces and the campaign raises issues that need addressing. It is important that we look after the Armed Forces personnel and their families, not just while they are serving, but long after their service has ended.”
Kevin Shinkwin the Legion’s Head of Public Affairs said, “We’re really grateful to Paul Rowen for pledging to do his bit. The entire Armed Forces family needs the support of politicians from all parties, and our manifesto outlines practical ways the next government can help. We hope all the parties will give it serious consideration and that every MP will pledge to do their bit”.
Spotland and Falinge Councillor Peter Clegg, who is Vice-Chairman of the Rochdale Branch of the British legion said: “I’ve been a member of the legion now for around 25 years and cannot speak highly enough about the work and support they provide ex-servicemen and their families. Everybody can get involved by pledging their support for our manifesto by visiting:
The Royal British Legion has been fighting for the concerns of the serving and ex-Service community since 1921. The Legion supports serving personnel in the field and those returning home, perhaps with life-changing injuries, as well as their families and those who have served in the past.
