Bus shelter vandalism
Date published: 12 August 2009
The GMPTE bus stop outside Tesco supermarket on Manchester Road, Sudden has been smashed to pieces by vandals
Reacting to vandalism of a bus shelter in Sudden last weekend Michael Renshaw, GMPTE’s Interim Bus and Rail Director, has said: “Mindless vandalism of this kind is extremely frustrating.
“After the damage was reported to us, the glass was cleared and replaced on Monday. We work hard to keep our shelters in good condition as a vandalised shelter can give a poor impression of the public transport network and act as a deterrent from travelling.
“I urge local people to help us tackle vandalism like this by reporting any damage to GMPTE as soon as possible. Damage will be cleared up and repaired within 24 hours of it being reported.
“I would also like to remind people that we have CCTV in a number of shelters in Rochdale and across Greater Manchester that are moved to hotspot areas as needed. Any evidence of subsequent criminal damage is always passed to the police.”
People can report vandalised shelters to GMPTE by emailing busstop@gmpte.gov.uk or calling 0161 244 1720 with the shelter number on the stop’s sign.
Anyone who witnesses criminal behaviour at a bus shelter should contact the local police or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
