'Mindless vandalism'
Date published: 08 August 2009
The GMPTE bus stop outside Tesco supermarket on Manchester Road, Sudden has been smashed to pieces by vandals. Glass is strewn across the pavement, the lay-by and the dual carriageway after an act described by one local as “mindless vandalism”.
The vandalism occurred late Friday night/early this morning (Saturday 8 August) and has made any attempt to stand at the bus stop, or get or on or alight from a bus, very precarious.
Philip Jones of Rochdale, surveying the mess as he waited for a bus said: “This is mindless vandalism but sadly we have come to expect it these days.”
While our photographer was taking photos a bus arrived at the stop and a disabled patron and his helper very gingerly picked their way through the glass hoping not to damage wheelchair tyres.
