Training equipment for Fairfield coronary care units

The presentation of the heart models
Local charity Rochdale Heartbeat presented coronary care staff at Fairfield Hospital with heart models and equipment on 17 January.
One of the models shows the conducting system, whilst another shows a coronary bypass. A third model depicts the arteries, and a rhythm simulator will also assist in training. A further full-size hmuan model with arms, legs and lungs has also been donated for training.
The staff at Fairfield said that the items are “essential” in assisting with their training, as well as explaining the workings of the heart and what a blocked artery looks like.
A representative of Rochdale Heartbeat said the models will “also help in explaining the heart and artery system to heart patients at a sometimes very traumatic time in their lives” adding that the human model would be “a very useful and well used piece of equipment.”
The equipment was jointly funded by the Royal Toby staff who held a raffle during an afternoon tea and generously donated the proceeds to Rochdale Heartbeat.
Rochdale Heartbeat has previously gifted items to the coronary care unit at Fairfield Hospital, including a Lucas machine, a vein locator and a handheld heart scanner – equipment that is all used on a regular basis.
