The whole of St James’ CofE Primary School in Wardle has posted letters of congratulations and well wishes to the Queen for her Platinum Jubilee.
Over 200 pupils travelled into Rochdale town centre on 23 May to post their letters into the special Jubilee post-box at Riverside to congratulate Her Majesty on 70 years’ rule.
Stuart Booth, deputy headteacher, said: “They all absolutely loved it, from the minibus ride to thinking we were in London. Some of them had never experienced posting a letter before in a post box and weren't sure what to even do.
“It was really lovely to see and we hope it's an event they will remember.
“It was a great start to our Jubilee week. It has been a very busy, but enjoyable week for all - and all part of the commitment to our community.”
The school also celebrated the momentous occasion with an afternoon of games, brass band music and entertainment on Friday 27 May, as well as creating an art exhibition (all based on Queen Elizabeth II) and planting a hazel tree for the Queen’s green canopy project.
Paul Ambrose, Rochdale BID Manager, said: “It was a pleasure to welcome all the children from St James’ CE Primary School to Riverside so they could post their letters to the Queen in our very special Jubilee post-box.
“The children really seemed to enjoy the occasion and their letters are on their way to Buckingham Palace.
“If anyone wishes to mark the Jubilee by posting a letter of thanks to the Queen, then feel free to pop down to Riverside and post your letter.”
